In desperate need of shedding a few pounds.

I am not the type of female who obsesses over my weight. For a good part of my life this was probably due to good genes, a thyroid that runs just a little hot, and the fact that for many many years I spent upwards of 3 hours a day at a martial arts school kicking ass.

And also probably due to the fact that I don’t look in the mirror as often as I should.

But I just came across pictures of my friend-since-birth’s birthday party last weekend, and I just have to say something…

Isn’t there some Law of the Universe in which people who know and love you are supposed to let you know when you head reaches the approximate size and shape of a pumpkin?!

Holy Christ people, a little intervention would have been nice!

I swear to god my head does not normally look like a basketball. At least I don’t think it does. But I haven’t put on any significant weight lately, which means my cheeks have been the size of softballs for some amount of time, and no one has said anything.

Let’s look at a progression here.

2005…2007… wham 2008! Whoa boy, what the heck?

I’m going to do something now, which, being a woman, ought to be embarrassing, but seeing as how I just showed off my pumpkin-head to the hundred-or-so of you who stop by on a regular basis, it won’t be.

I’m 5′3″… (maybe 5′3-1/2″ on a tall day)  and as of 10:30 this morning I weigh 128 lbs. To be honest that’s usually up around 130, but I’ve been jogging a couple of miles a week for the last month.

My weight has pretty much hung between 120-125 for the last decade, but I also used to be able to do 25 push-ups without flinching so I was made up of a lot more muscle.

I know that even now my BMI is normal, but that doesn’t mean I have to walk around looking like a bobble-head. So I’m going to take a page from the fat cyclist (who occasionally shames himself into losing weight by posting in on his blog) and aimeeroo (who is doing a “losing it challenge“ and donating $2 for every pound she looses to charity).

Don’t worry, I’m not going to obsessively post about my weight. But I am going to start trying to hit that 10,000 steps a day goal, bump up the number of times I run a week… oh, and stop scooping out a spoon full of peanut butter, rolling it in chocolate chips, and calling that dinner.

You may notice a ticker on the right with my weekly weight, and the donation amount that will be going to a local charity (Natures Nursery, perhaps… which cares for injured, sick, and orphaned wildlife in NW Ohio.)

And yeah, I’m going to post pictures of my face and the struggle to get it back to a normal, less perfectly-spherical shape.

And I may cut all my hair of again. I loved that short ‘do! Especially when I woke up with a mohawk.

(Makes me laugh every time I see that picture.)

Personally, I think you look sexier and more sophisticated now…but I can totally relate to seeing pictures of “Then” compared to “Now” and wanting to throw yourself off the roof at the local Jenny Craig.

Good luck, and don’t go crazy or I’ll email Patty and schedule an blog intervention ;-)
Love the short hair. Had it myself most of my life. :-D

LOVE the short hair~ have I mentioned it’s MY current haircut? I wake up with mohawks almost every morning.

I totally understand about extra weight… drove me nuts when I dropped 50 lbs last year (for my own health) and around 30 lbs down everyone started to make noises like SURELY I wasn’t going further… I am 5′4″, and feel best around 120, thanks. I ahve the most energy there, and I like having energy!
