Beachfront Property

I know, I know… you thought that behind the Memorial House were fields of wheat gently swaying in the breeze…

What you didn’t know… and neither did I… is that MysteryMan and I actually have beachfront property.

You might have also thought, that a thin strip of pavement separated our house from a golf course…

What you didn’t know… and neither did I… is that we are located on the edge of a lake…

MysteryMan tells me that it won’t encroach further onto our land…

But, um, that’s not going to stop me from using some of that 11,000 extra yards of fill dirt from the pond to put a berm in the back of the property too.

Or at the very least, it’s encouraged me to read up on The Art of Sandbagging, courtesy of the Army Corps of Engineers.

  1. Loved that picture of the wheat! How can simple things in nature be so beautiful? Could it possibly be the expression and handiwork of an Artist? Hmmm.
You definitely need a pond so you can use the dirt to raise the other land. I agree! Don’t forget about those adorable cattails to surround part of the pond.

  2. In addition to the arts of berm-building and sand-bagging, don’t forget about the valuable skill of running away if things start to get out of hand. Though as flat as it is there, you may be at a local high point already 🙂

  3. Seeing that photo sent chills down my spine. 5 time flooding victim over here. Our flooding was due to badly undersized storm sewers, EPA regulations that the city finally had to abide by and just plan old bad planning by our city that left residents in the dark.

I must admit, now that the chills have subsided, Oh MY what a beautiful view. No wonder you are eager to get things done.
