It would be unfair to say that the the donkeys were the highlight of our vacation because our favorite part of the whole trip was, well, the whole trip.
We spent a little time wandering around Austin…
Which of course meant finding the closest Irish Pub. We find one in every city, because it’s the only place you can get Guinness and cider in the same glass.
And of course we saw some things other than the inside of a pub.
Even though we are Damn Yankees through and through, the confederate soldier graves were still a moving sight…
Even more moving was a memorial for the WTC made from twisted rubble taken from Ground Zero.
There should be one of these in every city.
We also spent a little partaking in Austin’s favorite pastime. Listening to good music:
After the quick pace of Austin we slowed things down a bit in Victoria at the mini-ranch.
The shapes down South are something different.
MysteryMan’s aunt has mastered living as much outdoors as indoors. (Which you can do in Texas. Not so much in Michigan.)
We stayed in the guest house, with an awesome porch built by MysteryMan’s grandpa.
And of course, the the company was great (both the kind with two legs and with four).
And of course, donkeys!
But we headed back into the city, and after our first night in Austin sleeping in the stinkiest hotel room ever, and another down south in our rustic country cabin, we were shocked when we came back into the city and saw the “hotel room” our good friends (one of whom has a connection at the hotel) set up for us.
This would be the men in the formal seating area, right in front of the formal dining area, which says nothing about the television area, kitchen area, bedroom, or two bathrooms. No shit, this suite was bigger than our entire house.
The views weren’t bad either.
And that will probably be the first and the last time MysteryMan and I are the inhabitants of the largest suite in a hotel. For seventy-five dollars a night.
Being the most generous and attentive hosts ever, they showed us the greatest parts of Austin, and gave us the Grand. Tour. of. Food.
All you can eat BBQ anyone? And, did you know you can get avocado on a grilled cheese sandwich down south? Because you can. And then you can die happy.
Another thing you can get down South apparently? Death Metal Pizza. Who knew?
We were also treated to the beautiful sights around Austin, and thank god, because we spent every other available minute eating. It was possible I wasn’t going to fit in the airplane seat on the way home.
And boy, did we leave smiling!
And MysteryMan and I would like to sent a huge “Thank you!” out ALL OVER THE INTERNET to Peggy, Scott, and Audrey for making our time in Austin absolutely awesome. Thanks guys!
