One Step Closer To Drywall

Drywall has become the proverbial mecca of our house-building experience to date. Not moving in, not having a working bathroom… no, I’ll just settle for having a wall or two, preferably with insulation behind them.

And I’ll tell you what, we’re thisclose to having them. So close I can almost taste the wallboard dust, and I have, in fact, tasted drywall dust before, so I’m pretty sure I’m correctly identifying the sensation.

One of the main things holding us up was the installation of our second fireplace. This is a two-way fireplace between the master bedroom and the master bath…

We agonized a little bit on the height of the fireplace, since it basically just floats in the middle of the bedroom wall. I have thoughts on what to do around it, but I haven’t nailed anything down yet. It may involve these…

From the bathroom side it will be sitting six inches above the bathtub.

And then I’m going to just spend the rest of my life living in the master bath.

As for our quest to have walls, we still need to:

  • Get the fireplace and final building inspections
  • Hook gas lines up to fireplaces
  • Block in for cabinets, towel-rods, etc.
  • Finalize wiring for the sound system
  • INSULATE

Anyone want to take bets on whether or not we have walls in December?

  1. Knowing you, it’s not totally out of the realm of possibility that the first sheet of wallboard be hung November 30. Having them by December will be cake.

  2. I’ve been following your blog for a while and I’m loving the whole journey. You’re doing an amazing job and your choices have all been perfect. (I particularly love your lighting selections.) I’m excited for you to get to the drywall stage. It’s amazing to see the transformation! Keep up the hard work and I think you’ll have several (if not all) walls by December!

  3. I agree with you, especially this “We agonized a little bit on the height of the fireplace, since it basically just floats in the middle of the bedroom wall. I have thoughts on what to do around it, but I haven’t nailed anything down yet. It may involve these…”
