Thanks For Joining the Mess, uh, Fun: Winter 2010

This is the part of the season where I’d like to say thank you for a few people who helped me stick my tongue out at MysteryMan and say, “See? I told you so.” And let’s just be clear for anyone who is new around here…this dude?

031409

I love him. I also occasionally throw things at him, or run away from him really fast so I don’t get bound, gagged, and buried in the back yard.(Did I mention his New Years resolution last year was not to kill me while we built a house? SCORE ONE, I’m still breathing!)

But I will say that for a long time he called what I do on the internet with this website “messing around on the computer.”

Cue my righteous indignation.

Messing around? Messing? Around? I’m writing earth shattering articles here that will change the way people think of miniature donkeys, what the heck more do you want from me? To actually get off my butt and finish the drywall in the house?

Okay, I suppose that’s not an unreasonable request.

Still, a few months ago I started running ads on DIYdiva in no small part to prove to some people that this is not “messing around” this is “generating revenue.” Also, let’ me be completely transparent here, if you think I’m too good to snatch at any chance I’ve got to pad my tool fund, you have seriously underestimated my addiction.

However, I am picky what I put on this website and I think I’ve weeded through the scams and spam to add some genuine sponsors to this site who offer products and services that are relevant to what I talk about. I’d like to  take a minute to point out some of  the awesome places  that have contributed to making me feel validated for all of the hours I spend writing posts instead of  building the house I want to live in some day.

Northline Express

They provide all kinds of heating, fireplace, grills, and outdoor accessories. MysteryMan may or may not have his eye on a beauty like this for his outdoor kitchen.

Bunkbeds.net

Seriously? I’m kind of bummed we don’t have one of these in the garage we live in. I might stay out here another year if we did…

And, in retrospect, that may be why we don’t have one. But still… a girl can dream.

The Perfect Rug

Make a perfect, customized rug by choosing the fabric, size and shape, and border. Right up my alley since I can never find exactly what I have in mind in the stores. And even more awesome, the first three samples are free.

HP Spartacote

Remember back when I almost fell over dead because all of the concrete porches– that surround half our house– turned out light purple? Well it happened, I almost died, and then we put the concrete sealer on them,  like the ones HP Spartacote sells, and it magically turned into the gray brown concrete we’d been hoping for. They also have these fancy garage floor coatings.

I want one in my future workshop, but I know two days after it’s installed I’m going to spill paint on it and MysteryMan will be all, “This is why we can’t have nice things, you spaz.”

True Value

Also, I have to thank the fine people at True Value who may also think I’m a spaz and yet still invited me to be a part of the True Value DIY Blog Squad with some other awesome folks who mess around on the computer a lot.

Thanks to everyone for a great end to 2010.

Oh… nah. I never thought of it, but I don’t want you guys to pay me for being a spaz on the internet. I just like having you around to read my insanity. I’d much rather have you guys fund your own projects (or buy more tools!) with your cash.

Congrats on the sponsors. I can’t do it because I don’t want to hate blogging (because then I would have to blog!)

That’s a fair point. With a lot of stuff (including freelance writing jobs) as soon as I’m obligated I HATE doing it. But since I’m taking a laissez faire to the whole sponsorship thing it hasn’t been a problem– no contracts or obligations and I don’t promise when or what to write.

I’m always afraid I’m going to get sick of keeping this website up, but (after 6 years) I’m finding it’s just the opposite. It motivates me to do more/different things. Plus I’d be paralyzed on half of my decisions without the advice you all give.
