Arguably I deserve the blank white walls, particularly if they come with a matching straight jacket.

This room has come a long way from being a grassy patch in the back yard:

Which, I would almost take the grassy patch again if it came with sunshine and seventy degree temps, but what’s done is done.  And now, I get the pleasure of trying not to bleed from the eyeballs while spending numerous hours every day looking a paint swatches.

I won’t say it came without blood tears whining a little frustration, but I’ve narrowed the color choices for the master bed/bath down to the final five. I think.

Benjamin Moore’s Sea Haze and Desert Twilight are top contenders for the bedroom and bathroom respectively. Chelsea Gray is a pretty good match for Restoration Hardware’s Slate (which I’m totally watching to see how it turns out over at House of Hepworth’s no-longer-purple dining room) I like that it’s a warmer gray, and since I’m using wood trim instead of your standard white, that could be key.

Which is all well and good, except every time I look at those blue grays, I fall a little bit more in love…

So, probably I’m going to end up painting it maroon or something. Stranger things have happened.

  1. I think Sea Haze would be great with wood trim – Healing Aloe, though pretty, looks “minty” on my screen. Love how Chelsea Gray shows and would be nice in bedroom with Sea Haze in bathroom (based on my computer screen)! I love Beach Glass, but always picture it with white woodwork and desert twilight shows as “olivey”! Can’t wait to see the finished product!

  2. I tried a lot of these in my new bathroom. Beach glass (which I’m pretty sure I picked for the name, not the color) went really blue on me once it was on four walls. Healing Aloe was nice, but I went a different direction. I now have it on the bathroom ceiling and I like it … it’s just a barely there blue, and in my bathroom it definitely reads blue gray, not green gray despite what the name might lead you to believe. I love Sea Haze but I’ve never seen it in real life.

    1. That’s good to know Erin… I don’t know how “blue” I want to go. I’d like to say in the gray-er range.

  3. I’m with you, picking paint colors makes me break out in a cold sweat. From what I can tell on the monitor Sea Haze and Healing Aloe are looking pretty fab – are you at the painting-a-swatch-on-the-wall stage yet?

    1. I did the lunch break swatch painting today with the first three colors, but I’m going to have to go back for healing aloe I think.

  4. I like the Sea Haze and the Desert Twilight. With out seeing all of your other fixture selections I’d go with Sea Haze in the bathroom and Desert Twilight in the bedroom (for smaller rooms I like lighter colors so they feel more open). I think the Chelsea Gray would go well with the Sea Haze though too.

It’s hard to tell from this uncalibrated monitor here at work (I regularly calibrate my one at home) but Sea Haze looks a lot like the Restoration Hardware Silver Sage color that was a very popular not too long ago. Just do some google searching and you’ll find a ton of pictures of that color.

One of the darker grays would be great in the bedroom. We painted our guest bedroom SW Perfect Greige. It’s the darkest color in our house and it looks great in a cozy bedroom space. With morning light through the window the color looks more beigey and at night it looks more gray. It’s a fun color.

    1. Oddly enough Robin, I did take my RH swatches into my local paint store and Healing Aloe was a pretty close match for Silver Sage.

Also, I must be the last person in the world to know RH had paint, because I just found out last week and now I’m hearing it mentioned everywhere. Goes to show how much attention I pay to things that aren’t power tools, until I need to–say– paint something.

I’m going to check out Greige… I love that name.
