Conversation I Had With State Farm

Me: I have a house insured with you, and I need to increase the insured value… we’ve done a little work on it.

Insurance Agent: Okay, it says your house was 950 square feet, has that changed?

Me: Yes, its 1927 sq ft now.

Insurance Agent: And 2 bedrooms, 1 bath?

Me: Actually 3 bedrooms, 2 baths.

Insurance Agent:  Still have aluminum siding?

Me: No it’s all cedar siding now.

Insurance Agent: Same 3-tab roof shingles?

Me: No, they’re new, dimensional shingles.

Insurance Agent: Vinyl windows?

Me: Nope. Aluminum clad.

Insurance Agent: Carpet inside?

Me: Ah, actually… no. It’s mostly hardwood.

Insurance Agent: So… is any part of the house the same?

Me:

Me: I think one of the closets is in the same spot.

Insurance Agent: Okay then.

  1. Don’t forget to make sure the livestock barn is covered. And the garage probably needs its coverage increased – especially for the value of the bathroom tile!
