Memorial House: The Final List (Part 1)

An interesting thing happened over the last week or two… the house all of the sudden resembles what I’ve been picturing in my head since way back when it looked like this.

And now…

Crazy, right?

It’s getting closer to being “done” although not so much closer that it is in any way, shape, or form ready for the surprise appraisal that’s being done on Friday. As in three days from now. Have I mentioned before that there is still no kitchen sink? And I’ve been down this road before.

Hopefully it gets rescheduled for after the weekend, because there is a pretty decent sized list of stuff to get done to put it in better shape for being appraised which currently looks like this:

  1. Install counters and kitchen sink
  2. Paint kitchen
  3. Install master bath cabinet doors
  4. Poly and hang master bath doors
  5. Trim out master bedroom doors
  6. Finish tile in master bath
  7. Clean all the junk up

Since a lot of things are still in progress (notably exterior and interior stairs, and the lack of flooring in most of the house) it’s possible there’s going to be a Part 2 to this list. And there’s about zero chance all of that gets done in two evenings after work.

The last two years of my life have basically been lists about this house. Lists of things that need to get done, that need to be bought, that should have been done, and that I would have liked to do at some vague undefined point in the future (um, chicken coop, anyone?) so it’s strange to think that this might be my final list about the Memorial House before I start making all sorts of new crazy lists for the future.

  1. Good luck!!! I know I’ve said this before, but I am so excited to see where you end up and all the projects you continue to take on. In about 6 weeks, I’ll be starting over in a new place myself and am so looking forward to making it mine. The past 2 years have been an incredible adventure and learning experience for you. May you continue to find adventures as you move on from the Memorial House. Us readers will follow you wherever!

  2. What Nicole said! Makes me think of that line from Closing Time “every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end”.

  3. May your heart heal fully; your soul be at peace! I look forward to what your new home will be and all the incredible projects you so willingly teach to many of us! A new journey…not always easy to start, but always an adventure or ten!
