Something strange (and a little magical) is happening here…

Let me start off by saying that I don’t believe in fairy tales, or maybe more accurately, fairy tale endings. (I also don’t believe in using consistent capitalization in the titles of my posts… has anyone ever noticed that? I’ve been doing this for eight years, and still have no concept of properly titling something. Or properly anything, for that matter, but that’s a topic for a different day.) What I do believe in is working your ass off, believing in yourself, not sitting around and waiting for awesome things to come to you when you can go out there and build them yourself.

I also believe in magic.

I do. There’s a certain magic in constructing something, right? In taking something that wasn’t and bringing it into existence, piece-by-piece. But I’ve also heard rumors about a different kind of construction magic. That if you’re in the right area at the right time, if there’s just the right mix of sawdust and imagination and belief in the air, if your heart and eyes are open, you might start to notice things…

Like a little extra sparkle in your sawdust…

And if you keep working away, in the midst of the mess, you might find something special. A hint that maybe you’re not working alone…

And if you’re really lucky, and if you don’t stop believing…

A little magic just might move in for good.

Something strange is happening in the Liberty House these days– there’s definitely a little sawdust and magic in the air– and we’ll just have to see what comes of it…

    1. I can speak from experience that that would be much better than, say, a cluster fly infestation! [shudder]

  1. I’ve been reading your blog for just under a year now….and I’ve really enjoyed it. This post may or may not have made me shreik out loud something like “OhmygodthatissoFREAKINGcool”. Can’t wait to see where this goes….

    1. Hahaha. My favorite part about this is that we’re operating under the assumption that I was ever fully there. lol. As if buying houses online and making up songs about my tools were totally normal things to do…

  2. Ummmm…am I the only one that thought maybe she’d found a secret hiding place from residents long ago with treasure in it? I seriously thought you were going to whip out a gold bar and a note from your knocking ghost friend. (I don’t believe in ghosts)

    1. Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle style? Nope! But I may build a few secret hiding places of my own for far-far distant future residents.

Have you heard about the architect that created DaVinci Code-esq puzzles to be found in this house? That could totally happen here.

      1. I hid beer bottles and a note in my walls for future renovators. I really wish I had found one myself!

  3. YES!! Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle!! That Mystery on 5th Ave. story is great, I can’t wait to see what you do in your house:) The possibilities are endless, I’m rooting for the bookcase door/secret room to happen as well.

  4. Why are construction fairies so small? If they were large, say larger than humans, couldn’t they get the job done faster? Just sayin..

  5. That’s all great & wonderful! I was just wondering though, have you slept recently?! :c)) LOVE your blog! You’re an inspiration!

  6. First, thanks for an amazing blog. We just made a giant leap and we’re in the process of buying a house, so you’re helping to prevent me from exploding into a million tiny pieces from waiting to start my own projects in there, by distracting me and educating me with yours. 😉

English major nerdy title tip: generally helper verbs (can, has, does…) and articles (a, an, the, be…) aren’t capitalized unless they’re at the beginning of a title. Capitalize the heck out of pretty much everything else. It’s not the precise rule, but you’ve got magic to build.
