Sunday Sawdust: Indoor Workbench Edition

Sometimes I have this vision of one day using my Sundays for rest and relaxation, and then a minute later I remember that this is me we’re talking about, and I find nothing in the world to be more restful and relaxing than hearing the buzz of the table saw and the intoxicating smell of fresh cut pine.

Plus, there’s just something about ending the weekend by doing something, especially because I never know how much time I’ll have to play out in the workshop during the week. Today I indulged my need for a little sawdust by doing this…

And a little of this…

Why, you ask?

I mean, do I really need a reason to rip down a half a dozen pieces of old barnwood? Uh. Okay yes.

This is why…

My heart goes pitty-pat for my indoor workbench, but it still needed a little something. One of the projects on my current list was to create a shelf of sorts underneath it.

I brought some old barn wood in to thaw out a few weeks ago, and I finally decided it was time to check something of the list.

Those are 2×6’s ripped in half and cut to length, and then held in place with a couple of finish nails on each end.

Looks a lot more balanced and solid now, doesn’t it?

Plus having shelf down there is dead useful.

That’s actually not the stuff I’ll keep down there when all of the storage in this room is actually organized, but you get the idea.

I just have to get some brackets to actually bolt the top onto the bench and then this baby is done and I can check it off my project list. (Which is awesome, because I’ve got a couple of ideas about what new project I want to replace it with.)

  1. Outstanding. What a great looking project! I’m jealous you have a source of genuine old barn wood to work with.

That spooky tablesaw, however, may haunt my dreams. It looks like it desperately wants to taste finger flesh.
