Knocked Down

It’s been a while since I’ve been laid up with a sickness, but one definitely knocked me flat on my ass for the last 24 hours. It’s weird to feel simultaneously exhausted and more well-rested than I’ve been in a while, but I suspect not being able to keep any food down and also sleeping for 20 hours a day will do that to you.

I’m just tiptoeing back in to the land of the living, and it’s been quite an adventure this weekend, what between my body’s full-on revolt against existence, and also attempting to clean up the massive mess from a storm Friday night.

We were blocked on all sides from driving down my street, but luckily one of my neighbors had a chainsaw with him (because, why not?) We had to cut through three trees to get through.

One of those trees was actually mine, which means I get the fun job of clearing it up.

Oh, don’t worry. The Nuggets are helping.

Obviously.

The storm was quick, but fierce. It blew the cap off the back of my truck…

But the empty garbage bin at the end of my drive? Didn’t move an inch.

Looks like both the tractor and my chainsaw will be put to good use this week. After I manage to get myself out of my pajamas.

Just as things get knocked down, they always get built up again… even on my farm. If you haven’t seen it yet, there could be no better inspiration for that than this time-lapse video of an Amish barn raising…

Breathtaking.

  1. I got all excited for a second…I thought the barn construction was happening at your place LOL!!

    1. Yeah, my wording definitely wasn’t very clear. (I’d say I *wish* that was my barn, but I already have a 10,000 square foot barn that I barely know what to do with!)

  2. I thought the same as cricket spurgeon! I thought you raised a brand new shop! So sorry to hear you got knocked down, but good news you are recovering.

  3. Who says you can’t use a chainsaw in your pajamas! Or maybe painting in my skivvies and flip flops is weirder than I thought…

  4. When the blurb for this post came up in my feed on FB all it said was “It’s been awhile since I’ve been laid”. Obviously, I had to come over and see what the hell you were talking about 😉 Hope you’re feeling better soon!

    1. Hahahaha. Well, that’ll teach me to do a word count when I’m writing intro sentences…

The whole post was worth it just for that.

  5. That barn raising is amazing! Growing up, I wanted so bad to be Amish. I know, every girl’s childhood dream, right? But seriously, I admired their simplicity and their community. Still do! ….Anyways, as always, your posts are great. Love your Nuggets!
