The Girl With The Tools
Sep 27th, 2007 by kitliz
Let me introduce myself by saying this: I am a collector of cats, power tools, and unfinished projects. I am the kind of Diva who wears ripped jeans almost every single day and at one time buzzed my hair. I am notorious for running into things (either with my car or my person), leaving my fly open, and being barefoot.
If you’re wandering through here wondering if I ever make an appearance as an actual human not covered in mud…
It’s been known to happen. But most of my life is consumed with the 80 year old house I bought in July of 2004. Who needs showering when you’ve spent the last 3 years tearing a house down to the studs and teaching yourself how to lay tile, hang drywall, refinish floors, and build badass pergolas, I ask?
And when I’m not entertaining myself with all of that, I paint, I carve, I cast metal, I take pictures, I make broomsticks, and I sing songs I make up to my cats. Added to that I do pretty much anything else the men in my life tell me I won’t be able to do.
In all the hours of the day that I don’t spend dreaming about owning a mini lathe I work in the Family Business. We’re big and rowdy and Italian, but contrary to popular belief I don’t break kneecaps for a living… yet.
And while that’s all powertools and badassiness I do also spend an hour doing my hair before I go out (two, if you ask mysteryman but he’s lying, I swear), occasionally paint my toenails, bake homemade pies, and have a secret passion for Nora Roberts books.
I just don’t see why I can’t be a woman and powertool wielding badass at the same time.

holy smokes…you beat me to it! i was recently thinking about a new diy site. yours will be way better than mine ever thought about being. can’t wait.
It’s so good to know that I’m not the only woman around who takes on insane DIY projects and spends at least an hour a week getting paint/construction adhesive/grout/etc from underneath my nails and out of my hair.
Keep it up!
Hey! Congrats on winning the Solay Lamp! Very nice!
Ahhh what a relief, I’m not the only one running around with an open fly occasionally. he he he
Like your projects.
I am right now looking for inspiration for my 1925 Bungalow … I bought on my own a year ago. And I come across this Incredible Woman Kitliz.. Your Blog is inspiration all within itself. I agree with you and Kemp too .. * (that be me). I spend more time at the hardware store and home improvement stores than … anything else. Pondering. Buying. Pondering.
My Cat’s think I am Superhuman Mama and Nuts at the same time. I am def going to follow your blog. I have challenge in every room I look …….. Lord Have Mercy.
Have you mastered that coping saw yet?
