Now that we’re praying sure the roof won’t collapse on the Station, it’s time for the fun stuff, like putting in new windows.

The openings are 50×55″ or so, which makes for some bigass windows. We priced some out at Lowe’s for about $350 each. For once I was the voice of reason and almost ordered the damn things before we found ourselves on the patio of a local bar and MysteryMan says, “That window doesn’t look so hard to build.” And you should know just where that idea spiraled out of control to… but in case you don’t, I’ve captured it on film for your viewing pleasure.

Let me state first that I have no idea what in the hell I’m doing, as evidenced by the number of times you’ll see me scratching my head. You can find obscure, declassified government documents on biological weapons on the internet, but google “how to build a custom window” and you get nada. At least, nothing I found particularly helpful.

So, I did what any good DIYer does when that happens… started tearing shit down.

Once we get the bigass pieces of glass in I’ll continue with this series. Which is not only kind of fun, but may actually be helpful in the long run.

I’ve been toying with the idea of adding video to this website for some time. I work with a creative bunch of people who have piqued my interest in the medium, but with broommaking, house building, taking pictures of MysteryMan, and the enormity of my dirty laundry pile, taking on yet another hobby didn’t seem like a prudent idea.

But you know, I wanted to do it. And while I am a woman who can give up french fries –which on some days are my only reason for living– for an entire year, I have no willpower when it comes to not indulging in new projects.

So instead I compromised with myself, bought a cheap little Flip, and decided the theme for any DIY videos you see on this site will be “amature, fun, and nonsensical” (I do set the bar high for myself, don’t I?)

Enjoy…

DIYdiva: Building a Picnic Table Bench from kitliz on Vimeo.

I was going to wait to post this with the plans for the awesome little picnic table I built, since it essentially shows the process of assembling both the benches and the table, but if you can’t tell the theme of the day here was indulgence, not denial. (Which explains why two of my meals today consisted of soft serve icecream instead of anything with actual nutritional value.) And so you get video now, plans later.

Sometimes I love being a grown up.
