Well, this happened…
Pretty sure that three weeks ago I was working outside in a tank-top.
Yep.
Definitely was.
I’d be surprised, but this is Michigan. After three decades, nothing about the weather really surprises you.
You know who was surprised though? The Nuggets. This is their first snow ever…
WhatisitwhatisitWHATISIT?
Woo. That’s cold.
Wooooooo. StoptouchingitSTOPTOUCHINGIT.
A lot of chicken dancing ensued. It was pretty much the highlight of my week so far.
The unfortunate part is that I wasn’t prepared to deal with the water buckets freezing quite this early in the year, so I’ve got a little electrical work to do in the garage this weekend along with attempting to dig out and patch an old water line in the middle of the pasture so that I can turn out water to the barn.
Projects on the farm are never-ending, but that’s also why I love it. Well… that and the chicken dancing.

We need a video of chicken dancing. 🙂
YES! Chicken Dancing videos pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Haha! I’d love to see the chicken’s reaction to snow!
I dug out and hooked up the heated water bowls this weekend too…just in time!
Adorable! Now if you could just teach the chickens the Macarana Dance. Cheers!!!
We had our first snow this week too. We also turned off all of the outside water over the weekend. Fortunately, our animal population is much lower than yours (actually, I’m not sure that that’s a fortunate thing. I’d like some chicken dancing of my own). Anyways… we have 5 gallon jugs that we lug out to the barn to keep the cats hydrated.
I love love love this blog the most of all. Please don’t stop.
Thank you!
You know the old saying, “mad as a wet hen”? That’s nothing compared to a snowed-on blown-around cat.
Water buckets are freezing so you have to do some electrical work ??
You amaze me …….
I’ll do plumbing and I’ll do electrical….
Just not when they involve each other ♥
There’s no plumbing in this one actually, the water buckets just have heaters in them so it’s mostly electric (and has to do with some mysteriously non-functioning outlets in my garage, plus 150 feet of extension cords.)
The chicken pics are priceless. Thanks for the laughs and smiles today. Made my week, too.
I am now adopting the phrase, “I’m like a chicken in the snow.” PS. Love your blog, living vicariously through it.
Ha, just love the snow and the chicken pics are priceless!
I found out I can have chickens where I live. I have to say your chicken posts are not keeping me from wanting them.
Hey Kit – I have a book on Steam Heating I’d like to send you. I sent you an email, so please get back to me if you want it.
